Founder and Practice Director
Cheryl Donald, MA, MBA, LMFT is a New York State Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT), Healthcare Executive and Life Coach who has spent two decades working with public health care providers to improve their operating and clinical systems, manage performance outcomes, and reduce health disparities in their communities.
In 2013, Cheryl founded Brooklyn Marriage & Family Therapy, PLLC as a vehicle to fuse her knowledge of the business of health care with her passion for providing mental and emotional health care services.
Cheryl Donald has a servant's heart when assisting others in reaching their full potential and views herself as a catalyst for change in her clients' lives. Specializing in the treatment of Depression and Trauma, Cheryl is an active therapist in the counseling room, utilizing a culturally sensitive, cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused approach that is directed toward developing and achieving the client's vision of solutions to their personal life struggles.
Cheryl has extensive experience providing clinical counseling services in New York City. Prior to opening our private practice, Cheryl Donald provided individual, couple, and family psychotherapy to clients at The Park Slope Center for Mental Health in Brooklyn, NY. Cheryl has also served as an Associate Therapist at Queens Counseling Services of FRMH, a Staff Counselor at Hofstra University’s Marriage and Family Therapy Clinic, and Staff Counselor at A.S.P.E.C.T.S., a non-profit school and community based alcohol and substance abuse prevention, education and counseling program, which operated under the auspices of school district 27 in Queens County, New York. She regularly attends mental health lectures, meetings and trainings and uses that knowledge to better serve her clients.
Cheryl received her clinical training at Hofstra University, earning a Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy; she also holds a Master of Business Administration degree in Health Care Administration from Baruch College of the City University of New York and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Mississippi.
Cheryl is a Clinical Fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, Past-President of the Metro-NYC Chapter of the New York Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, a Diamond Life member of Delta Sigma Theta, a international service sorority, and Board Chairperson of the Brooklyn Track Club Association. Cheryl is an experienced public speaker and subject matter expert in mental health and available to provide lectures and workshops.
